Until recently, I was convinced that I was trapped. Having recently moved to a new state and knowing no one, all while mothering three young kids (the littlest with special need and severe anxiety), finding fellowship has been near impossible in this season. Joining a mid-morning “moms group” or Bible study would be an easy fix for my loneliness and desire for fellowship but life’s circumstances won’t allow it right now.
The playlist of “you’re trapped” and “you’re alone” and “you should be able to …” played loudly and on constant repeat in my brain all day long. I was convinced that on the other side of the walls I was stuck behind, were freedom and friends and normalcy.
Then God interrupted the playlist and offered me a new perspective. What if I was exactly where I was supposed to be? What if the walls weren’t a trap, but an invitation? What if my inability to go out was actually my ability to go big? Global, even.
Maybe you’re like me and things like mid-week Bible studies or Moms groups or even church are impossible right now. Chronic illness, childcare needs, crazy work schedules, the list of reasons goes on and on. And they are real reasons, not excuses. They are real boundaries around us, keeping us at home or at work, unable to venture out. It’s likely that these boundaries are up for only a season- maybe long, maybe short. Regardless of the details, let’s milk this season for all its worth. Let’s get as much out of it as we can and not waste a minute. Let’s rest where we need rest and let’s run when we can run, even if we’re only able to run in place.
I can’t go out to a Bible study, but I can sit at my kitchen table and study the Bible. And, thanks to technology, I can invite friends and strangers to join me. Suddenly the boundaries don’t feel so suffocating.
Want in?
Join me and others from all around the world for a unique twist on weekly Bible study. We meet live on Facebook, each Thursday from 12:30 pm – 1 pm (PST) to walk through the book of Hebrews and talk about Jesus. Can’t join us live? Watch the weekly videos at your convenience and stay connected.
The enemy wants you to believe you are alone. He wants you to believe that freedom is on the other side of the walls life’s circumstances have built around you. But what if freedom and fellowship and growth are available within your boundaries? What if you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be?
My friend Kate asks the questions this way:
Have you walked to the edge of what is possible and done the work? You choose: stay locked up in your home and listen to the lie that your stuck or, walk to the edge of the driveway, with a dream in your hand, and claim freedom over the street in front of you – even if you cant venture out that far yet. I choose the curb.
We’d love to have you join us as we find freedom at the curb.
Where: Her “Yes” Legacy Facebook page
When: Live on Thursdays from 12:30 pm – 1 pm (PST), or listen while you’re cooking dinner or driving home from work or rocking your babe to sleep for the 4th time tonight.
Why: Cause we’re not alone and God has something to teach us in this season.
